The Ribbel Safe scalpel is packaged in the safety position. To use the scalpel, simply press down on the locking button and move the protective shield back until you hear a click. It is now ready for use. (Figure I)

To cover the blade during a procedure, press down on the locking button and move the protective shield forward until you hear a click.(Figure 2)

Finally, when the procedure is complete, press down on the locking button again and move the protective shield forward past the safety line visible on the handle, and the blade is now safely protected for final disposal. (Figure 3)
